Healthy Shelter

As the pendulum swings from the early cave to the modern penthouse, where dost thou want it to eventually settle is the question.

After meditating on the ideas of bioregion and embodied energy with regards to materials (www.storyofstuff.com), it becomes apparent that materials should move as little as possible horizontally. Simply put, drop a tree that’s not a seed bearing tree and isn’t a habitat for the local animals and throw a wool blanket over it (assuming there’s sheep or llamas in the area to make the blanket). Now that’s a low-embodied energy shelter with bioregion in mind! However, the pendulum has swung a bit further to date and we are host to a multitude of appropriate technologies that can achieve this concept with a bit more style and comfort. Let’s look at what a healthy shelter is in the present day!
