Is it time for a local currency?

This video got me thinking about a local currency.  There is a segment in the video that talks about the Geurnsey Islands off the coast of England that have a wool dominant economy. When the wool markets took a hit so did their economy. The locals issued a local currency and the local governments allowed the currency to be payable towards local taxes. It operates to this day with great success as a supplement to the broader “federal” currency.

This led me back to the LETS developer and here are some videos to get us up to speed. Please contact me if you have any experience on how to make this work or if you are local and want to be involved.
